"Fascinating stuff... a sort of folk-meets-Laurie Anderson"

Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

Katy Rose Bennett has been creating her earthy, intimate folk music for
over 20 years, telling stories of love, despair, connection and community.
She empowers audiences to be emotionally open by sharing the strength in vulnerability, through the vessel of song. She has released 7 albums to critical acclaim with plays on BBC Radio 2, 3 & 6 and RTE Radio 1.

"Every time I see Katy play she knocks me over, makes me cry and lifts
my soul."
Tom Besford, English Folk Expo

In September 2021, Katy released 7th album, Alone On A Hill: a beautiful, emotionally raw yet ultimately joyful collection of multi-layered, a cappella vocal songs. It was written and recorded during lockdown and inspired by living in rural isolation on a hill on the edge of Birmingham for a year: songs of birds, trees, the wind; songs of surviving, growing peas and longing to sing with other people; Katy cites Brian Wilson, Bjork and Bobby McFerrin as particular influences.

That autumn, Katy formed a cappella vocal quartet The Frankley Beeches to recreate this unique album live and, together, they have been captivating audiences with their beautiful, intimate performances. Here's a recent live video from The Kitchen Garden Cafe, Birmingham.

"Lingering spell-craft of multi-layered acappella vocals"

In recent years, Katy has been expanding her musical palette, writing music for dance and theatre, and incorporating more experimental techniques into her practice.

In 2022, Katy became one of Drake Music’s Artists-in-Residence and has been developing her use of music technology, vocal sampling and sonic manipulation. She created the piece ‘Dissolution’ as part of this process which is set for release on 17th February 2023.
