Autumnal happenings 2023

Greetings all. It is pouring and pouring and whipping up a gale outside on the hill, announcing a definite end to the summer and the arrival of colder nights and shorter days.

It's giving me pause to reflect on the last few months which have been a whirlwind of camping, acappella singing, walks by the sea, sand castles and more singing. In the last few weeks, I've been collaborating with an array of extraordinarily talented humans to create some really powerful art. And I get to call it work!

The photos above (from l-r) show a sunrise at Unicorn Natural Voice Camp where I taught this summer; the creative team on my most recent collaborative project 'Where We Grow' with Black Country Touring (final performances this weekend); and a camp fire at a singing camp organised by Roxane Smith at the idyllic Camp Plas in Mid-Wales.

Towards the end of August, I was involved in a beautiful project called 'Limitless' which was a celebration of art created by people (like me) with FND hosted by Linden Dance Company at mac, Birmingham in collaboration with charity FND Dimensions. The event included art, film, spoken-word, dance, song and music and I had the total pleasure of collaborating and performing with young dancer Tab Boho and singer and now songwriter Jeanette Clark - see beautiful photos by Dan Martin below. We're already planning a new show called 'FND The Musical' - watch this space!

The summer came to a beautiful close with the inaugural Septembersong last weekend which is organised by the wonderful folk behind Wood Festival - who also happen to be my siblings! It was an intimate and perfectly formed gathering with my highlights being Michele Stodart's Saturday night headline set and the Vocal Spokes acappella performance on Sunday. I loved running a singing workshop on Sunday morning and performing a solo set - with a flash-mob choir - see over on my instagram although I was a little forgetful of lyrics due to singing round a campfire 'til the wee small hours. Get yourself to Septembersong next year - it'll be beautiful!

I'll be supporting Michele Stodart at her Kitchen Garden Gig on 5th October as she launches her ace new album, and I've also got a house gig with the lovely Suthering in Warwick on 27th October. See live page for all upcoming gigs and workshops.

If you'd like to come and sing with me at an acappella singing workshop, I've got a few things coming up, the first being a weekend at the Steiner School in Hereford with my friends Bruce & Rebecca Knight. It's gonna be gorgeous!

That's it for now, although I've probably forgotten something. Safe journey to you all through the rest of 2023.
